Heather's family had been breeding chocobos since long before she could think; war chocobos, to be exact, and theirs had always been in particularly high demand, especially thanks to the war against Niflheim.

But even with particularly good birds, Lucis wasn't quite good enough to take on Niflheim. The demand was rising, sure, but so was the danger; so, when Heather was in her early teens, her family moved to the crown city Insomnia, where they'd be protected by a magical wall.

But despite the safety, city life and Heather just didn't quite get along. It wasn't exactly bad, per se, just not what she wanted. It took her quite a bit of convincing, but in the end, her parents allowed her to leave. So, at age 16, Heather moved to Wiz' chocobo outpost. The place had been mostly left alone by the Niffs, too; it was nothing more than a little farm, the chocobos not trained for war, but for simple transportation. Still, it was worlds better than the big city.

A few years later, a lone chocobo showed up at the outpost. Not a wild one; it was still wearing an armor and a rider's tag, making it obvious it was a war chocobo.

Heather immediately recognized it as Aura, one of her favorite birds from when she'd been a child. First, of course, the bird had to be taken care of. There were some marks left from the saddle and bridle, signs Aura had been wearing them for far too long already, but other than that, she was fine.

After a few days of rest, Heather decided to take the chocobo back to the crown city. If Aura's rider had made it back, they'd most likely want their bird back; Heather took one of Wiz's chocobos as well, to ride back to the outpost on.

However, in the crown city, it turned out that Aura's rider had gone missing as well, presumed dead. Heather handed in the tag, but was allowed to take the chocobo back with her, and after a quick visit to her parents, that was exactly what she did.

From that day on, Heather kept Aura by her side near constantly. Of course, she still cared for Wiz's chocobos, helped with their training and raising the new chicks, but her main focus was her own retired war chocobo.
